Commissioner’s Neighborhood Improvement Projects (CNIP) 2015

The Unified Government authorized the Commissioner’s Neighborhood Improvement Project (CNIP) to focus improvements for parks, sidewalks, and other neighborhood infrastructure. Each commissioner undertook the selection and prioritization of work in their districts, and their recommendations were then approved for action by the full Commissioner.

Construction of projects is due to begin in the late summer of 2015 for select areas, and will continue through much of 2015 and 2016. Individual projects are being designed and bid in phases. The latest news on status for individual projects is listed below:

District 1

Project 1A: John Garland Park at 5th and Cleveland – Replace a portion of the existing gravel trail with a 10 foot wide asphalt trail having a rubberized surface coating. The trail improvement will encompass the southern portion of the park trail. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

Project 1B: Other Improvements in District 1- PENDING

Once the final costs for John Garland Park are confirmed, remaining funds may be dedicated to one or more additional improvements.

 

District 2

Project 2A: 13th Street Sidewalk from Grandview Ave. to Ann Ave.– Install a new sidewalk along the east side of 13th Street. The existing curb will be re-used as it is good condition. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

Project 2B: John Fiske Elementary Sidewalks – Sidewalks in the vicinity of John Fiske Elementary School will be constructed in the locations where sidewalk is missing. Additionally, some ADA ramps will be constructed at corners. The amount and location of the walks will be determined by priority and budget. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

District 3

Project 3A: 22nd Street, Lawrence to Steele Road – New curb installation along 22nd St from Lawrence Ave to Shearer Road on both sides of the street and along the East side of 22nd St from Shearer Rd halfway to Steele Rd. There were also be a few sidewalk repairs along this project area as well. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

Project 3B: 42nd Avenue, Booth to Lloyd Sidewalk – Add a sidewalk to the south side of 42nd Avenue from Booth to Lloyd. This will entail moving the existing curb approximately 4 feet to the north to make room for the new walk. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

Project 6A: 53rd Street Locust to Oak Grove – New curb and sidewalk installation along the West side of 53rd St. from Locust Ave to Oak Grove Rd. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

Project 6B: Strong Avenue, 37th to 42nd – Still being designed and will be in Bid Package No. 2 depending on funding.

District 7

Project 7A: Tauromee 84th to 86th Streets – Remove and replace the existing sidewalk along the north side of Tauromee. Driveway aprons as well as curb and gutter will be replaced as well. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

District 8

Project 8A: Tauromee 80th to 82nd Terrace – Construct new sidewalk along the north side of Tauromee. This will entail moving the existing curb approximately 4 feet to the south to make room for the new walk. All new curb will be constructed. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

Project 8B: Presidential Highfields Park – Construct a new 6 foot wide concrete trail loop with the southern portion of the park. The entrances from the existing walks to the abutting streets will be reconstructed as well with the east entrance moved somewhat north to allow for better alignment with the sidewalk across the street. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.

District At- Large 2

Project AL2-A: 14th Street, Steele Road to Noble Prentis School – Construct a new curb and sidewalk along the west side of 14th with a cross walk striped to cross at the school location. Construction to begin in late Summer 2015/early Fall 2015.
