Past Initiatives

Healthy Communities Wyandotte

Healthy Communities Wyandotte (HCW) was founded in 2011 in response to health data, like data used for the County Health Rankings, showing stark health disparities affecting Wyandotte County. HCW organized into several teams and committees to identify and address social and economic factors that affect our community's health. Focus areas included: infrastructure and physical activity; access to healthy foods; reducing tobacco use; policy; education; fetal and infant mortality; healthcare access; and more. Staff at the Health Department provided backbone support and coordination, and partner agencies and neighborhood leaders were actively engaged in the work as members of the teams and committees.

The broader initiative of HCW is not active today, but some initiatives that were previously part of HCW are still active, including the Fetal & Infant Mortality Review Community Action Team and the Tobacco Free Wyandotte Action Team
