The Wyandotte County Public Health Department's Substance Use Program within the Community Health Division focuses on increasing local resources and services related to substance use. The program includes a Peer Support program, Narcan distribution and training, and advocacy for statewide and local overdose policy. For more information, please call (913) 573-5398.

Peer Support Program

If you are ready to make a change in your substance use patterns, our Peer Support Program can match you with a peer to assist you. Peers connect clients to a variety of resources and assistance, including:

  • Mental, behavioral and physical healthcare
  • Substance use treatment
  • Family support and reunification
  • Housing assistance
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Mentoring one-on-one
  • Case Management
  • Benefits enrollment
  • Legal Services
  • Education support (high school equivalency, college, tutoring)

Naloxone (brand name NARCAN®) is a life-saving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. See the Opioid Safety & Naloxone brochure to learn more about how to recognize the sings of an overdose and how to use naloxone.

Kansas Good Samaritan Law

On May 9, 2024, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed House Substitute for Senate Bill 419, a "Good Samaritan Law" that provides legal protections for people who seek or provide medical assistance for someone experiencing an overdose or other medical emergency related to substance use. This new law will go into effect on July 1, 2024.

Updates on Clinical Services

Starting April 18th, the Wyandotte County Public Health Department (WYCO PHD) is offering a new walk-in Satellite Clinic at the Bonner Springs Community Center.  

When: Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, 9 am – 11:30 am. 

Where: Bonner Springs Community Center, 200 E 3rd St, Bonner Springs, KS 66012 

Services Offered at the Satellite Clinic

Unless otherwise noted below, health insurance* is accepted and sliding scale fees are offered for self-pay or those without health insurance. 

  • Sexual transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Well-women exams (pap smear, breast exam, referrals for mammograms)
  • Birth control / family planning  
  • Limited primary care for those ages 18 and up (including treatment for skin, ear, nose, and throat symptoms, and other common conditions like pink eye and urinary tract infections): $45.00 flat fee 
  • Work physicals (ages 18 and up): $75.00 flat fee 
  • Sports physicals (ages 12 and up): $45.00 flat fee

Davids Gathers WyCo Leaders to Discuss $750K in Mental Health Funds

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Rep. Sharice Davids hosted a conversation with WyCo law enforcement officers, public health experts, and city officials to discuss the impact of her federal funding to improve individuals’ mental health & support law enforcement. The secured $750,000 is helping the WyCo Public Health Department (WyCo PHD) hire co-responders, trained mental health professionals.
