What Electronics Waste Can I Recycle?

Dumpster Days provides resident with the opportunity to recycle most electronics waste for free. Items accepted include:

  • Accessories (cables, mouse, keyboard, power supplies)
  • Calculator
  • Cameras
  • Computer (desktop, laptop) inc. destroying hard drive
  • Computer (desktop/laptop) inc. hard drive wipe
  • CRT Monitors (bulky size)*
  • Desktop All-in-One (w/monitor) inc. hard drive wipe
  • Desktop All-in-One (w/monitor) inc. hard drive destruction
  • DVD/VCR players
  • Game consoles
  • Hard drives (loose) destroyed
  • Hard drives (loose) wiped
  • Large Misc. (i.e. Vacuum, etc.)
  • LCD monitors*
  • Microwave
  • Network equip (router, switches, modem, hub)
  • Phone-cell (inc. wipe data)
  • Phone-desk and answering machine
  • POS Systems
  • Printer (desk), copier, fax, typewriter
  • Printer toner cartridges

There is a fee for certain items: $40 for CRT Computer Screens, $20 for LCD/Flat Screen TVs, $40 for CRT TVs. Cash only. Exact change required.

What Else is Recycled?

In addition to electronics recycling, Public Works has partnered with Avenue of Life to recycle gently-used mattresses. They will also collect gently-used furniture. Tell me more about this Avenue of Life program.

What's Accepted?

Most household items are accepted. This includes:

  • Electronics recycling
  • Mattresses
  • Furniture
  • Most appliances
  • Fixtures
  • Televisions & CRT TVs/Monitors*
  • And more!

There is a disposal fee for certain electronic items. CRT Computer Screens are $40, LCD/Flat Screen TVs are $20.00, and CRT TVs are $40. Cash only. Exact change is required.

What's Not Accepted?

There are some items that cannot be disposed of at this event. They include:

  • All household hazardous waste
  • Paint
  • Yard & storm debris waste
  • Batteries
  • Food waste
  • Recycling
  • Tires
  • Refrigerators
  • Construction demolition material
  • Fencing
  • Any item from businesses, non-profits, or other commercial entities

These items will be turned away at the event, so remember not to bring them! Items not accepted at this event may be taken to the Recycling & Yard Waste or the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal centers.

Recycling & Yard Waste Center

3241 Park Drive, Kansas City, KS 66102

The Recycling & Yard Waste Center is open free of charge to Wyandotte County Residents. The center can accept items like clear, brown, and colored glass; mixed office paper, cardboard, food & beverage cans, plastics #1-7, grass clippings, garden trimmings, leaves, branches, and stumps. Visitors will need to show proof of residency with a drivers license, BPU bill, or some other document displaying your name and address.

Operating Hours

  • January to March - Saturdays until March 23, 10 AM to 3 PM
  • April to December - Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from April 4 to December 21, 10 AM to 3 PM

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Center

2443 South 88th Street, Kansas City, KS 66111

The Household Hazardous Waste Disposal (HHW) Center is available to Wyandotte County residents free of charge. Products accepted include auto batteries, used motor oil, brake fluid, carburetor cleaner, degreasers, gasoline & fuels, furniture stripper, glue with solvents, latex & oil-based paints, paint thinner, putty, grout, caulk & spackle, roofing tar, stain varnish & lacquer, aerosol products, drain & oven cleaners, mothballs, nail polish remover, polish with solvents, spot remover, and propane cylinders. Visitors will need to show proof of residency with a drivers license, BPU bill, or some other document displaying their name and address.

Operating Hours

The HHW is open from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21 and October 19 in 2024.

Who Will Unload My Items?

Visitors are responsible for unloading and disposing of their items in the available dumpsters. Public Works team members will be on hand to assist with especially bulky items in some cases.

What Else Should I Know?

Help Dumpster Days go smoothly for everyone by keeping the following in mind:

  • Arrive early
  • Do not block intersections when waiting in line
  • Following the directions of Public Works team members and Police Officers
  • Be ready to show your proof of residency
  • Bring appropriate gloves and eye protection to limit the risk of injury while unloading
  • Do not argue with team members about accepted items
  • Be courteous to others
