Specialty Plates, Permits and Placards

Vehicles must be registered before application can be made.

Most specialty plates require completion of a form which can be located on the State of Kansas Website.

Forms Needed for Specialty Plates

• Antique and Disabled Personalized Plates
  Kansas Law requires each personalized plate to be unique. Check the Personalized Plate Availability tool before completing a Personalized Plate Application form. 
  
  
• Amateur Radio Operator (ARO)
  $1.50 at time of order. Copy of ARO license required.
  
  
• Kansas Distinctive Plates
  Kansas offers a variety of distinctive plates for you to choose from. To view these plates and any additional qualifications or requirements, visit the Kansas Department of Revenue. 
  
  
• Military Veteran License Plate
  Kansas offers several types of Military License Plates. To view the options and requirements for each plate, visit Kansas Department of Revenue. 

60 Day Permits can ONLY be issued on newly purchased vehicles. The new owner's name, date of sale, and purchase price must be assigned on the back of the title. The date of sale is the legal date of purchase, which is used to determine the expiration date of the permit. These permits are valid only for the first 60 days of ownership.  Proof of Insurance coverage must be provided for the vehicle. The cost of the permit is $8.00.

How do I apply for a Disabled Placard or License Plate?
