2025 Opening Day at Wyandotte County Lake

Opening Day Update As of 3/2/2025: Please be advised that for the safety and well-being of lake guests that opening day at Wyandotte County Lake has been delayed to Thursday, March 6th. This delay is due to current ice conditions on the lake.

Opening Day for fishing is fast approaching! Make sure you have your proper permits before March 6th so you can join in the fun!

Do you need a permit?

Persons 15 years old or younger do not need any license or permits.
Persons 16-64 years old need both a Kansas state license and a WYCO permit.
Persons 65-74 years old ONLY need a Kansas state license.
Persons 75+ years old do not need any license or permits.

Wyandotte County fishing permit and Kansas state licenses can be purchased at the following locations:

Bass Pro Shops
Minnesota Bait
Wal-Mart (Legends or Bonner Springs locations)

The parks and Recreation main office, 5033 State Avenue, and WYCO Lake Marina will only sell WYCO fishing and boating permits (Marina is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
