A federally-funded program, the Kansas Educational Enrichment Program (KEEP) has been established to support Kansas families and children recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education.

KEEP provides qualifying parents and guardians with a $1,000 award per eligible student to pay for a variety of educational goods and services.

KEEP is available to students who are Kansas residents between 5 (as of August 31, 2022) and 18 years of age (as of May 31, 2023) that are enrolled in a K-12 program. KEEP awards are also available for students with disabilities through the age of 21 and students above 18 who are still in high school, with proof of active school enrollment in a K-12 program.

Eligibility for KEEP funding is based on federal household income guidelines (300% of federal poverty guidelines,) however, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly recently declared that students with household income less than 300% of federal poverty guidelines are now eligible for KEEP funding.

Beneficiaries have 12 months from the date of receipt to purchase goods and services through the KEEP Education Marketplace.

KEEP funds can be used on enrichment and educational activities including:

  • The purchase of curriculum and educational materials, including school supplies and certain allowed technological devices.

  • Camps with academic-related curriculum such as music, arts, science, technology, agriculture, mathematics, and engineering.

  • Tutoring.

  • Language classes.

  • Musical instruments and lessons.

  • KEEP funding is not eligible for private school tuition.
