UG Expands Hours for Senior and Disabled Tax Rebate Program

With appointments filling quickly, the Office of the Clerk has extended availability to complete the required paperwork.

Beginning Monday, February 10, the Unified Government of Wyandotte and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) Clerk’s Office will extend appointment hours at three sites to assist with processing applications for the seniors and persons living with disabilities rebate programs. 

Since the program launched on January 2, the UG has processed a total of $221,422.88 in property, utility and sales tax rebates for seniors and persons living with disabilities in KCK/Wyandotte County. Last year, the UG processed a total of 1,343 rebate applications for a total of $891,380.72. Available by appointment, the additional hours will give qualified residents even more opportunity to apply before the April 15, 2025 deadline.

Make an Appointment Today

Applicants should call 3-1-1 to make an appointment to bring their required documents and complete an application with the assistance of UG staff. Free transportation may also be available to their appointment with at least 48-hour notice. The UG is now accepting appointments at:

  • Eisenhower Community Center (2901 N 72nd St, KCK): Tuesdays from 9AM-1:30PM
  • Joe E. Amayo Community Center (2801 Metropolitan Ave, KCK): Thursdays from 9AM-1:30PM
  • Wyandotte County Annex (8200 State Ave, KCK): Fridays, 10AM-4:30PM
  • Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging (849 N 47th St, KCK): upon request (utility and sales tax only)

Walk-Ins Welcome

Applicants can walk-in to process their application with the UG Clerk's Office weekdays between 8:30AM-4:30PM. The UG Clerk's Office is located in Suite 323 of the Municipal Building (701 N 7th Street Tfwy, Kansas City, KS 66101).

You may also apply by mail by sending the required documents to the UG Clerk’s Office for review. All documents will be returned once fully reviewed.

Know before you go

There have been some changes to the tax rebate programs from the State of Kansas this year and the Unified Government has posted updated qualifications and documentation requirements on their website at wycokck.org/taxrebates.

BPU PILOT Relief and Property Tax Rebate Program: Wyandotte County residents with an income of $42,600 or below and who will be sixty-five or disabled on January 1, 2025, may be eligible to qualify for a refund of the BPU PILOT charges if they are a BPU customer or a portion of their property taxes as a property owner.

Utility and Sales Tax Rebate Program: Residents living in Kansas City, Kansas who are at-least age sixty-five or disabled on January 1, 2025, with an income of $42,600 or below may be eligible for this program to receive a rebate on franchise fees collected on gas, Internet, cable or phone bills. The 2024 sales tax rebate, for eligible applicants, is $200.

Required Documents 

To expedite your tax rebate application, please be prepared with the following information, including: your full name, complete home address, date of birth and telephone number. If you want your check mailed to a different address, please provide the mailing address and mark separately as your preferred mailing address. If disabled, the date of disability and from what agency (i.e. Social Security, Railroad, Veterans Administration).

Proof of income for all persons living in your home for all of 2024. Documents accepted are:

  • W-2, 1099
  • Social Security statement (received at the beginning of the year showing how much you received for the previous year)
  • Railroad retirement statement
  • Veteran's disability statement
  • Bank interest statements
  • Food stamp award
  • Child support income
