UG Partners with Community Agencies to Provide Cold Weather Shelter

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) has partnered with community organization Cross-Lines Community Outreach this year to manage and operate a temporary KCK Cold Weather Overnight Shelter. This overnight shelter is in addition to various Wyandotte County and KCK warming centers.
This year the overnight shelter will be at the Willa Gill Services Center (645 Nebraska Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101). It will be available to those in need on nights when the temperature is 25 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Guests are allowed to begin lining up at the shelter at 5:30 PM, with shelter doors opening at 6:30 PM. The expected maximum capacity of the shelter will be 4o adults and available beds will be first come, first served.
Guests will be provided with a warm meal, a sleeping mat, a blanket, and a tent to sleep in. In the morning guests will also be provided with a grab-and-go breakfast as they leave the shelter by 7:00 AM.
The overnight shelter will be staffed with a diverse pool of people from those working in homeless services, behavioral health, healthcare, community members, and persons with lived experience.
Determination whether the shelter will be open for the evening will be made by 8:00 AM each day, and the information will be available by calling 913-725-0079.
In addition to the overnight shelter, there are multiple daytime warming centers in the Kansas City, Kansas area.
