KCK Overnight Shelter to Temporarily Move on Saturday, Feb. 15
Published on February 14, 2025
In anticipation of the dangerously cold weather expected to arrive in Kansas City, Kansas within the week, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) will temporarily move the KCK Overnight Shelter from the Willa Gill Center (645 Nebraska Ave, KCK) to 550 State Avenue, KCK.
This temporary move will take place beginning Saturday, February 15 through Sunday, February 23. Severe winter weather increases the number of people seeking shelter services, and the move to 550 State Avenue will provide additional shelter capacity.
The overnight shelter will continue to be managed by Crosslines Community Outreach. Guests will be provided with warm meal, a sleeping mat, a blanket, and a tent to sleep in. In the morning guests will also be provided with a grab-and-go breakfast as they leave the shelter by 7:00 AM.
During this temporary time, the Willa Gill Center will serve as a daytime warming center with extended hours from 7 AM and a checkout time of 6 PM. The hot lunch program also operates out of Willa Gill Center, so guests will be able to receive a hot lunch meal during the middle of the day.
Moving the shelter to 550 State Avenue and extending the hours of service at the Willa Gilla Center will provide 24-hour warm locations for the unhoused in KCK during the dangerously cold weather snap next week.
The overnight shelter is staffed with a diverse pool of people from those working in homeless services, behavioral health, healthcare, community members, and persons with lived experience.
