UG Launches Website & Engagement Map for Vision Zero Action Plan
Published on March 04, 2025
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG), has launched an interactive project website for the Vision Zero Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to improve transportation safety on county roadways in the cities of Kansas City, Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, and Lake Quivira.
The website introduces the community to Vision Zero, offering background and an overview of the existing safety concerns in Wyandotte County. An interactive engagement map allows users to add locations where they observe safety issues for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. Individuals who live, work, and play in Wyandotte County are encouraged to visit the website and add concerns to the engagement map. The County and Vision Zero Project Team will utilize community feedback from the engagement map as they develop a complete analysis of transportation safety data.
“Our community is the first line of input for where they encounter safety issues and crashes in their daily travels. We need that input to ensure the Vision Zero Action Plan provides a comprehensive and clear understanding of the areas where safety is a concern,” said Long-Range Planner Alyssa Marcy.
In addition to gathering community input on the engagement map, a Steering Committee convened to learn about the vision and help set goals for the Vision Zero Action Plan. The Committee will offer input on existing conditions, act as a connector to community groups to share information, and voice areas of concern in Wyandotte County that pose challenges near schools, and urban and rural areas. The Steering Committee will serve throughout the planning process to find solutions to eliminate crashes and transportation injuries in the County.
Vision Zero was first adopted in Sweden in 1997 to support safer mobility resulting in zero traffic fatalities and was one of the top implementation actions recommended in the goDotte countywide mobility strategy and PlanKCK Comprehensive Plan update.
