KDHE has placed Big Eleven on a Watch Advisory status as of Thursday, May 18 due to visual confirmation of the bloom. Big 11 has seen this pattern of blue-green algae take place around this time every year. The Parks Department is working with KDHE on potential solutions to mitigate the issue. Signs have been placed around Big 11 lake/park.
The community is reminded to use caution when contacting lake water. Avoid areas of algae accumulation and do not let people or pets eat dried algae or drink untreated water. Please follow posted signs.
