Work continues at the K-32/Turner Diagonal Freeway/Kaw Drive interchange as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s (KDOT) multi-phase bridge reconstruction project in Kansas City, Kansas.

Beginning Monday, April 7, eastbound K-32 will be closed just east of South 65th Street to allow for overhead work associated with bridge construction at the Turner Diagonal. The closure is expected to remain in place through April 20, weather permitting.

Motorists will be directed to follow a signed detour route, shown as the orange dashed line on KDOT’s detour map below. Travelers should slow down, follow signage, and plan for additional travel time in the area.

This activity is part of Phase 3 of the ongoing K-32/Turner Diagonal Freeway/Kaw Drive Bridge Replacement Project, which began in October 2022. The project includes the replacement of the eastbound and westbound K-32/Turner Diagonal Freeway bridges over Kaw Drive and the Union Pacific Railroad lines. Work is scheduled to conclude by May 31, 2026. To learn more about this project, visit the K32/Turner Diagonal Bridge Replacement webpage.

The $22.7 million project is being constructed by Miles Excavating of Basehor, Kansas.
