The Kansas City. Kansas Police Department and the Police Athletic League held the 3rd Annual Tackling Conflict Together Football Camp for youth ages 8-18 on June 8th at Bishop Ward High School. Thanks to the support and generosity of sponsors KC Golden Gloves, Unified Government, Greater KC Public Safety Credit Union, BPU, Boys and Girls Clubs and Dick’s Sporting goods, 150 young people spent the morning improving both their football and problem-solving skills.
“There are a lot of football camps, but only one that focus on anger management, conflict resolution and coached by police officers,” KCKPD Chief Karl Oakman, said. “The Tackling Conflict Together Football Camp was a free opportunity for kids 7 to 18 to develop football and life skills while enjoying good food. The coaches and kids had a great time.”
KCKPD officers served as coaches for the day along with retired Chiefs’ Trent Bryant, Ken Kramer, Jayice Pearson and Tim Barnett. Special thanks to the Dick's Sporting Goods in Merriam and Mike DiPasquale for providing all of the kids goodie bags filled with water bottles, sunglasses, towels, Dick’s gift cards, and other sporting equipment.
