In an effort to enhance infrastructure and ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has embarked on a significant bridge replacement project at the Metropolitan Avenue and I-635 interchange in Kansas City, Kansas. This comprehensive project, launched on February 23, 2024, will replace the aging bridge and modernize approach pavements, guardrails, and traffic signals, ensuring a smoother and safer travel experience for all. Focused Work Schedule and Impact To minimize disruption and efficiently manage the flow of traffic, construction activities are scheduled from Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7 AM and 3:30 PM. This timing reflects KDOT's commitment to reducing the project's impact on daily commuters while progressing steadily towards completion. During the project, Metropolitan Avenue at the I-635 interchange will be fully closed to traffic, a necessary measure to facilitate the work involved in dismantling the old bridge and erecting a new, modern structure in its place. The project is expected to reach completion by December 2024. Navigating Around the Construction Motorists are encouraged to remain informed about the project’s progress and any temporary closures by visiting KDOT's website or utilizing the state’s road information resources. Detour routes and alternative access points are clearly marked, ensuring that disruptions are kept to a minimum. Clarkson Construction, of Kansas City, Missouri, is the contractor on this $6.2 million project. KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through any work zone.
