A Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) bridge repair project begins Monday, March 24, on I-435 in Wyandotte County.

Crews will repair and resurface multiple bridges on I-435 between the Kansas River and the Missouri River. The project includes patching and overlay work on the following bridges:

  • Northbound I-435 bridge over Connor Creek
  • Southbound I-435 bridge over Leavenworth Road
  • Southbound I-435 bridge over Georgia Avenue
  • Southbound I-435 bridge over Parallel Parkway
  • Southbound I-435 bridge over 98th Street
  • Northbound and southbound I-435 bridges over Swartz Road

For the duration of the project, northbound I-435 traffic from K-32 to Swartz Road and southbound I-435 traffic from I-70 to Swartz Road will be reduced to two lanes. Project work will take place in phases, and traffic will be shifted to inside or outside lanes and shoulders at bridge project locations with marked detours.

The following ramps will be closed temporarily as the project progresses:

Phase 1:

  • Kansas Avenue to southbound I-435 entrance ramp
  • Southbound I-435 to Kansas Avenue exit ramp

Phase 2:

  • Westbound Parallel Parkway to southbound I-435 entrance ramp
  • Southbound I-435 to eastbound Parallel Parkway exit ramp

Phase 3:

  • Eastbound and westbound Leavenworth Road to southbound I-435 entrance ramps and
  • Southbound I-435 to eastbound Leavenworth exit ramp.

Work will take place on weekdays during daylight hours, with some Saturdays as needed.

Drivers will see message boards, lane and ramp closures, safety barriers, signs, cones, and pavement markings to guide traffic through the work zone.

Comanche Construction, Inc., of Olathe, is the contractor for the $7.17 million project. Work is expected to be completed by May 2026.

KDOT reminds drivers to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For real-time updates on road construction across Kansas, visit www.kandrive.gov or dial 5-1-1. Always drive safely and wear your seat belt. KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.
