As mandated by the State of Kansas, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS provides services through our Treasury Division; Motor Vehicle operations such as tag renewal and new vehicle registration. We have seen a growing number of challenges in providing customer service and are looking for your help to make this experience better for all!

Skip the line. Go online.

Tag renewal is an annual requirement of the state with a reminder being mailed to you at the same time each year. Skip the line and renew your tags online! Available 24 hours a day, this service allows you to avoid the hassle of visiting one of our offices during a busy work week. Plus, we mail out your new tags the next business day! The state system does allow you to renew your tags online up to 10 months past the original expiration date so there's really little reason to do this any other way.

Did you know? Once you have renewed your tag, you have up to ten (10) days to have it on your license plate. Local law enforcement has a record of your renewal, so you don't have to worry about getting pulled over for expired tags.

Make an Appointment.

Request an appointment if you would like to register your vehicle. Since this requires a lot of documentation, these 30-minute appointments are available up to 30 days in advance for both the Courthouse and UG Annex offices. Unfortunately, 56% of appointments are no-shows. This means the community is reserving time with us but not showing up for their appointment. Year to date, we have only had around 600 or so cancellations for appointments at the courthouse, for instance, which is not enough to accommodate the 20,000 walk-in tickets we issued in 2024 for the courthouse. Obviously, this has a huge impact on our ability to provide service to others as those missed appointments go unfilled. Please, please, please - help us help our community by canceling your appointment if you're unable to attend.

We also are seeing a lot of people attempt to walk-in for services, even if they have an appointment at a later date. Please stick with your appointment time as we are unable to provide service to the numbers of people hoping to get in a little earlier by walking in a few weeks too early. As the community has grown, so too have the number of applications we must process each year. Your appointment is the only way to guarantee you will receive service when you arrive at our offices.

Did you know? You can make an appointment for more than one transaction at a time. However, due to the length of time required, we limit the number of new vehicle registrations to two (2) per visit.

Join the walk-in waitlist.... before you even leave the house!

We do offer an option to add your name to the walk-in waitlist if you absolutely must try to get in before an available appointment. Don't wait until you get to our offices to get in line - you can do so before you leave home! We'll then be able to give you an estimated service window and arrival time if we can accommodate you that day. By waiting until you can be seen by one of our clerks, you will help keep our waiting areas clear and reduce stress for all of our visitors (and staff!). Unfortunately, we are finding that 25% of the people who sign-up for our waitlist do not show-up when called. Help us keep the line moving quickly by letting us know if you change your plans.

We sincerely appreciate the community's patience with this process. While we rely on the State of Kansas systems, rules and processes, our staff live and work here in Wyandotte County and try their best to provide excellent customer service. Don't make an important process more difficult than necessary - skip the line, go online!
