The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD), in collaboration with the American Red Cross is excited to announce the fourth iteration of “Sound the Alarm” on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM in the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Neighborhoods in Kansas City, Kansas.
This bi-annual event is dedicated to enhancing fire safety, awareness, and preparedness in local communities. Since the initial kick-off of the Sound the Alarm initiative in October 2023, over 506 smoke alarms have been installed across Kansas City, Kansas.
This Spring event will mobilize volunteers to canvass the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Neighborhoods with educational information and install smoke alarms in homes where needed.
“A properly installed and regularly tested smoke alarm saves lives from the wrath of unwanted fires. Research by the National Fire Protection Association reveals that smoke alarms cut fire deaths by 50%,” said KCKFD Fire Chief Dennis Rubin. “We are excited to be working with the American Red Cross to bring Sound the Alarm to the Strawberry and Turtle Hill Communities. This service is free of charge and focuses on the Fire Department’s mission of Preventing Harm. We will reach approximately 400 homes in these two neighborhoods to install smoke alarms”.
