A Career in Public Service!

The Unified Government’s Human Resources Department held a Public Service Career Exploration Day for all Wyandotte County residents from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Hall.

The Career Exploration Day provided an opportunity for residents to learn what it’s like to have a career in public service. Various departments of the UG had interactive booths with informational displays and public service vehicles were parked outside Memorial Hall.
“I feel very proud of the efforts made by the HR Department and support provided to us by UG Departments in hosting this event last evening,” said Renee Ramirez, Director of Human Resources.  “Our goal was to interact with our community to provide information on career paths in public service and provide information on what we do at the UG to support our community.  This was an event that supported one of our themes of strategic direction from our overall UG Strategic Plan which is People, Participate & Prosper. We should all be proud.”

Human Resources reported that a resident applied for four positions, Friday morning following the Career Expo, after learning more about employment opportunities within the Unified Government. Ramirez said there were approximately 70 people who attended the event on Thursday. Although participation from the public was lower than expected, UG employees used the opportunity to learn more about other departments and what their colleagues do from day-to-day.
